Nineteen Years of Adventure

TRIP NORTH

For almost two decades, Princess Yachts’ annual Trip North has brought owners together for an unforgettable journey from the Gold Coast to the Whitsundays. We spoke with Scott Davis, Sales Executive, Princess Yachts Australia about the experience, the confidence it builds and why many owners plan their year around it.

Scott, when did Trip North begin?
The first Trip North took place in 2007 with just three boats. This year will mark my 19th trip, with an average of around 10 boats joining us each year - an ideal number for creating a personal and enjoyable experience for everyone.

What makes the journey so valuable for Princess owners?
Many owners are accustomed to boating around the Gold Coast or Moreton Bay but may feel less confident navigating further north. Trip North gives them the opportunity to tackle destinations such as the Wide Bay Bar, the Great Sandy Strait, Lady Musgrave Island and the Great Barrier Reef with the support of experienced boaters. It also lets owners experience how capable their Princess is in genuine blue-water conditions. They return with a much greater understanding of their boat - and far more confidence in what both they and the boat can do.

What support do owners receive along the way?
Our National Service Manager, Andy Picart, joins the trip each year. Having someone onboard who knows Princess Yachts inside and out is enormously reassuring. If an owner has a technical question or encounters a small issue, Andy is there to help. That service support, combined with the experience of the wider group, allows everyone to relax and enjoy the journey.

Why is this such a special time to visit the Whitsundays?
September and October fall outside cyclone season and typically bring lighter winds, warmer water and ideal swimming conditions. The Whitsundays offer everything you could want from a boating holiday - clear blue water, white sandy beaches, beautiful anchorages and time with family and friends. With the world-renowned Great Barrier Reef on the doorstep, venturing to the outer reef for exceptional diving and marine encounters takes the experience to another level.

What are some of your favourite Trip North memories?
Seeing whales, dolphins and turtles along the way is always special, but the greatest highlight is watching owners build their skills and confidence. Some arrive on their first trip feeling understandably nervous, then return a few years later comfortable handling more challenging conditions and ready to lead the way. Many owners now tell me Trip North is their favourite holiday of the year. They reserve the dates well in advance and plan their annual boating around it. Knowing we’re helping them create those memories is what keeps us coming back.

What does Trip North say about being part of the Princess family?
Owning a Princess is about much more than the yacht itself. It’s the service, knowledge, friendships and experiences that come with it. Trip North is exclusively for Princess Yachts Australia owners and reflects the long-term relationships we build with them. It brings owners together to share ideas, explore different Princess models and enjoy some of Australia’s finest cruising as part of a supportive boating community.
